Claude Monet's Garden - revisited by Eban

"The Water Garden at Giverny", Eban

A genius watercolourist, who knows how to bring colours to life.

Born in 1954 in Vietnam, Eban (his full name) has lived in Alsace in eastern France since 1978. Eban immortalised this area in a collection of 50 paintings entitled "Aquarelles D 'Alsace" (Watercolours of Alsace) (Published by Les Petites Vagues Editions).
Eban arrived in France in 1963 and settled in the Gironde region in the far west. The picturesque landscapes of the Southwest offered him his first pictorial inspirations. According to him painting is 'The expression of a psychological dash and subsequent flow'.
Watercolour very quickly became the medium of preference for Eban because it offered him an exciting osmosis between paper and water. This phenomenon often brings the artist splendid surprise chromatics and pushes the research of the nuances and the compositions to new levels.
Moreover, watercolour is for Eban a poetry which all can express. The sensuality and the pleasure of this medium invite him to create lyrics. Each one of his works is thus the source of a small poem.
Eban's journey is one of many marked voyages which all gave inspiration for prolific creations, be it Florida, Madeira, Gironde or Normandy, each result was different. For his journey to the garden of Claude Monet at Giverny, Eban provided us with the beautiful piece above, and came up with this little poem to accompany the piece. Although translated below, we have left you the original French version so that you can appreciate the rhyme.

"J'aimerai rester vierge
Que mon âme guide ma main
Que ma main guide mon âme
Ainsi couleront les couleurs
Comme un torrent sans fin"

Or

"I would like to remain virgin
That my heart guides my hand
That my hand guides my heart
Thus the colours will run
Like a torrent without end"
