Lukas Dr. Fr. Schoenfeld GmbH & Co, which produces artists’ colours, has one of the longest traditions in Europe. Composition Pigments: The pigments used in Lukas 1862 finest artists’ oil colours are among the best available for a top artists’ oil colour which has the "finest" label. High lightfastness and permanence are, naturally, qualities guaranteed by Lukas 1862. Even extremely expensive pigments such as cadmium or cobalt pigments and genuine earth from Tuscany are used to offer the discerning artist excellent pigment quality. The names of the pigments are given on individual tubes. Binding agent: The binding agents meet high standards of quality; only pure, de-slimed and bleached linseed and sunflower oils are used, so they dry without stickiness. Consistency agent: Just as it needs to be for the discerning painter, Lukas 1862 is of a buttery, consistency and not too greasy. This is thanks to beeswax, which forms the main component of the consistency agent complex. Purity: Lukas 1862 is pure colour of the highest quality. It is free from addition of resin solutions with vaporised components. Lightfastness: Lukas 1862 finest oil colour only contains pigments which meet the highest demands. The lightfastness is indicated with ∗∗∗, ∗∗ or ∗; On the international, 8 level Blue Wool photometer scale, ∗∗∗ corresponds to a lightfastness value of 7 – 8; ∗∗ the second level of lightfastness 6 – 7; and ∗ the lightfastness value of 5 – 6. None of the pigments have a lightfastness any lower than 5. 108 colours are available: 3 white, 93 colours other than black and white, 8 transparent, 4 metallic shades.
