Schmincke manufacture top quality pastels for artists in 400 colours. Schmincke finest extra-soft artists’ pastels are manufactured without the addition of chalk or similar thinning or hardening materials. The medium fine pigments are blended with a minimum of binding agents and formed by high pressure. They are then dried at room temperature and finally finished off by hand. This costly procedure is necessary to ensure the famous special softness of these pastels. The high pigment concentration ensures the colour strength. All rough surfaces are recommended for painting. Pastel pictures are delicate, and therefore a light coating of special pastel fixative is recommended. Schmincke pastels are specially packed to prevent damage to the extra soft pastels.
