Brause Ribbon Nibs are coated with a protective layer of lacquer. It is highly recommended to remove this with soapy water before first use. Alternatively, the nib can be held briefly in a flame and then directly dipped in cold water. The nib is then inserted into the nib holder.

The Brause Ribbon Nibs for Left-Handers have a reservoir that is filled with a brush. The reservoir can be easily removed for cleaning with soapy water.
