Clairefontaine Canvas Boards are 3 mm / 4 mm thick boards covered with 100% cotton canvas 200 gsm. These boards have a universal primer making them ready to paint with oil, acrylic or gouache.

These Clairefontaine Canvas Boards are lighter than stretched canvases and more resistant than paper for oil techniques. They are acid-free.

N.B. all boards are 3 mm thick apart from the 3 largest sizes (12331/2/3), which are 4 mm thick.

Clairefontaine Canvas Boards 46cmx38cm | Portrait - I did like these canvas boards but they seem to have changed their surface recently.
I find it too fine but yet rough (looks like it's been sanded to much - there was even a hole in the canvas which I didn't see at first) & the primer is too absorbent.
I hope they return to their previous standard - I hope it's just a glitch. At the moment the landscape formats seem unchanged and hope it remains so!

Clairefontaine Canvas Boards 41cmx27cm | Landscape - I really like the surface of these as the texture isn't too fine for my style of oil painting. I like the french format sizes and the fact that they are sturdy and lightweight are prefect when travelling.
However on the downside recently, there does seem to be some inconsistency with the surface of the portrait sizes & landscape sizes when previously they were the same.
The last few batches of portrait sizes have been finer and too absorbent.
So I hope that the landscape surface doesn't change and please return the portrait surface back to it's previous state.
