This universally renowned canvas offers strict archival quality and consistent weave structural integrity. It is made of a mixed-fibre blend, structurally woven with 67% cotton and 33% synthetic polyester fibres. This deliberate blend ensures superior dimensional stability, higher tensile strength, and significantly greater resistance to humidity warping compared to 100% pure cotton. Rolls measure 10 metres by 210 cms.
The canvas has a sturdy mid-to-heavy fabric profile, weighing roughly 335 gsm. It is characterised by an even, medium fine grain. This texture offers the ideal amount of "tooth" to grab paint effortlessly while still allowing for fine detail work. The canvas is treated with a Leonardesca Universal Priming System consisting of high-pigment titanium white and acrylic resins. This creates a highly white, acid-free surface with perfectly balanced medium absorbency.
Because it features an acrylic-based universal priming layer, you can paint directly onto Leonardesca Primed Canvas 587 using oil paints (paint oils dont sink into raw fabric fibres, protecting the cloth over long periods), acrylic paints (adhere perfectly without requiring an additional primer coat), mixed media & gouache (tolerates water-heavy applications, heavy structural gels, or complex texture pastes without sagging).
