This Leonardesca Primed Linen Canvas 648 is clear primed, featuring a transparent protective layer that seals the raw fabric fibres and protects the fabric from the destructive oils found in certain paints, without covering up the beautiful, organic greyish-brown colour of natural linen. Because of this clear-sizing, it requires specific preparation depending on your chosen painting medium:
for acrylics: it can often be painted on directly if you want the natural linen background to show through your artwork.
for oils: apply an extra layer of sizing or clear medium to ensure the oil doesn't seep through and rot the linen fibres over time
TIP! If you prefer a traditional white surface, this half-prepared canvas saves you the effort of initial sealing. You can simply apply your own coats of white acrylic gesso, oil primer, or genuine handmade gesso directly over it!
