Clairefontaine Coloured PASTELMAT® Pad No. 5 contains 12 sheets of 360 gsm coloured paper in four different colours: dark green, light blue, dark blue and white.

With the PASTELMAT® paper, Clairefontaine has basically reinvented & permanently improved the traditional pastel paper! Fine nuances, elaborate details or colour veils - it's all possible with this paper.

Thanks to its special structure - coarser than velvet but softer than sandpaper - pastels adhere so well that you don't actually need to use fixative. You can apply layer upon layer without saturation. Your colours remain bright and clean. And you can blend them in in a controlled and precise way.

TIP! You can even wash them, because this paper can stand a bit of water. And there is also less dust formation, so your studio stays cleaner.

Product specifications of the Clairefontaine Coloured PASTELMAT® Pad No. 5 at a glance:

  • top bound
  • very fine, soft grain
  • 360 gsm
  • acid-free, pH neutral
  • highly resistant to ageing
  • lightfast
  • interleaf between each sheet

N.B. Loose sheets and pads sealed in plastic may bulge slightly after unpacking — this is not a fault, but an unavoidable consequence of the production process.

This is caused by the coating — the surface you work on — being applied to the substrate — the base paper — whilst the substrate is still damp. This ensures optimal adhesion between the coating and the substrate. Due to the drying process, combined with the grain of the substrate, the paper may bulge slightly, which becomes apparent upon unpacking.

This does not affect the quality or the handling properties of the paper. You can allow it to acclimatise with the bulge facing upwards — possibly weighted down with a weight — or secure the paper whilst working, for example with paper clips.

TIP! Other Clairefontaine Coloured PASTELMAT® Pads are available with differently coloured sheets, please see item codes: 16857/16345/11773/67571, 41484 for an anthracite coloured pad, and 15386 for a white pad.
