Key to symbols
Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks are water-soluble, oil-based inks suitable for all high-pressure techniques: woodcut, wood engraving, linocut, letterpress and also for printing with photopolymer plates. etc.
The oil base makes them identical in handling and printing to traditional letterpress inks.
These Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks are extremely lighfast and easily mixable. They have a high pigment content (12 of the shades are based on a single pigment). The intensity and transparency of Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash Relief Inks can be modified by the addition of Caligo Safe Wash Transparent Extender. To dilute these inks a small amount of Caligo Safe Wash Oil can be added. You can reduce the drying time by adding Gerstaecker drying accelerators. The inks can be washed away with soap and water, the use of harmful sovents is unnecessary.
All shades are available in 75ml tubes and 250g tubs.

The results are so good people have asked me if I've used oil printing inks for my lino cuts. I use up to ten colours in my prints and it makes exceptional prints on Somerset paper.
Clean up is easy. I mix the Caligo ink on a glass plate and to remove the ink at the end of work scrape off the excess onto newsprint then lightly flood the plate with a dishcloth of water. I let it soften for a minute and it then wipes away easily with kitchen towels or the glass or plexiglass can be flushed without fear under the tap. Same for rollers, roll off excess onto newsprint, loosen ink with water and get easy cleaning.
I keep my paints fresh by buying smaller tubes for most colours and tins for white.
I have since used oil printing inks, but find the clean up in a domestic kitchen and from myself such a messy trial I will never use them again. Caligo is the best Eco friendly product I know and ideal for adults and children.
