Gerstaecker Broad Bristle brushes (Spalter brushes) are good quality brushes designed for varnishing, priming or flat area painting. They have bleached China bristles which are soft and elastic.

These Gerstaecker Broad Bristle brushes have short unvarnished wooden handles with a hanging hole, and tin ferrules.

At the first painting it lost 3-4 bristles, later nothing. Holds paint well, excellent for backgrounds, blends very well. I would have given it five plus one stars, but after a few uses the ferrule started to rust, and the rust flows nicely onto the bristles. It's too bad they didn't use stainless, because this would have been a great brush.
