Gerstaecker French Watercolour Wash brushes are hand-bound brushes with a combination of crimped synthetic fibres and squirrel hair, for excellent paint absorption and flexibility. They are excellent value for money!

The fibres are mounted in transparent quills tied with wire. The brushes have short natural lacquered wooden handles. Gerstaecker French Watercolour Wash brushes are ideal for washes and also for silk painting.

Price per brush.

I have been using mop brushes of various makers and didn't see much difference in quality: Raphaël 803; Isabey 6234; Da Vinci and surprisingly good Biaelk from AliExpress. They all are made of squirrel hair, all are round and able of pretty good washes and have nice point - not like Series 7 Kolinsky but decent. When in April I forgot my Sennelier tin with Isabey No 4 at my friends' place in Yorkshire I decided to buy a medium inexpensive mop brush at my nearest art shop for the time being. First, the size of the Gerstaecker brush (printed letters were JAX) was bigger: No 3 was similar to Izabey No 4. One of the wires was a little loose. Generally that brush looked like a normal mop brush of good makers. The surprise expected me when I tried it. I really didn't expect such quality. May be it was like a lottery and I was the lucky one. The hair was thinner and softer and the shape was much more precise, than anything I had tried before. There was no single hair aside and no double point. The point gave me a perfectly fine line. I guess that the Gerstaecker mop brushes are relatively cheap because probably the source factory cannot guarantee such quality to every single brush. My advice to Londoners: choose meticulously at the shop. :)

Hmm...take care - The mop brush that was delivered wasn't this make (I didn't immediately notice) and snapped early in use. This may be a simple mistake but I've asked for clarification.
