This GIUSTO MANETTI Imitation Metal Leaf is sold in booklets containing 25 sheets measuring 140 mm x 140 mm. The imitation leaf consists of base metal alloys which serve as an inexpensive alternative to real gold or silver leaf.

Imitation Metal Leaf offers the advantage, particularly for beginners working with metal leaf, of being slightly thicker than real gold leaf, which makes it easier to work with. It can be used to gild or silver-plate objects made of wood, paper, plastic, metal, terracotta and many other materials. Its versatility also makes it an attractive option for school projects and group work. GIUSTO MANETTI Imitation Metal Leaf is available in two varieties: ‘loose’ and ‘transfer’.

  • Transfer = the metal is pressed onto a thin sheet of tissue paper, which is peeled off after polishing. The sheets can be cut to size with scissors. Particularly suitable for flat surfaces.
  • Loose = the metal is removed from the booklet using gilding gloves, just like gold leaf, and then applied in overlapping layers. Can be used on both flat and uneven surfaces.

Application: GIUSTO MANETTI Imitation Metal Leaf in the gold tones 2.5 and 2, and copper, are suitable for indoor use only and should be protected against oxidation with a clear varnish. GIUSTO MANETTI Imitation Metal Leaf in aluminium has a protective oxide layer and is also suitable for outdoor use to a limited extent.

TIP! The gilding process should always be carried out whilst wearing gilding gloves. Otherwise, fingerprints will appear on the metal.
