In architecture, you have the concept of béton brut — the characteristic beauty and charm of concrete left in plain sight. The equivalent in canvases are these transparently primed linen HONSELL NATURELLE canvases.

The fibres of linen are long-grained, giving it strength. In addition, the linen used for these canvases has an even structure and a medium weave, making it very stable.

This linen is universally primed with two layers of transparent acrylic-based primer. You can work directly on this primer, bringing the original, natural colour of the linen into your work. TIP! You can apply an additional layer of primer or transparent gesso, making the primer less absorbent.

The product specifications of these NATURELLE canvases by HONSELL:

  • 100% linen
  • 350 gsm
  • even structure, medium weave
  • universally primed with two layers of transparent acrylic-based primer
  • stapled on the back
  • wooden stretcher frame, profile depth 20 mm

You can use these NATURELLE canvases by HONSELL for:

  • oil colours
  • alkyd colours
  • some temperas
  • acrylic colours
  • collages
  • mixed-media

TIP! Some artists use these canvases successfully for textile work, such as embroidery techniques, whether or not in combination with (acrylic) paint, ink, etc..

Brilliant value for money. - Have bought and used quite a number of these canvasses, I have found them to be made of very good quality materials, constructed correctly with superior wedge design.
I have never had a frame warp even a tiny amount.
The surface is a delight to work on with knife or brush.
The only reason I don't paint exclusively on these canvasses it that I use deep edge a lot and boards for plein air.

good canvas and good price - I came across greatart by accident. As usual I see what I need but order a small quantity to ensure I am getting a good product irrespective of price. Being an amateur I am not over familiar with different canvasses but bought these anyway. I am finding them perfect for my use and I have no problem ordering more. Also a great price.

excellent canvas - I started buying these canvases a couple of years ago and am still using them. I find them excellent to work with and love the natural mid-tone which makes "mapping out" the image with lights and darks so much easier. For value for money and pleasure to work with I highly rate them.

Good sizes, very poor construction. - I wouldn't normally buy clear primed canvas but these Honsell ones were in the sale and came in some good sizes. The canvas itself is satisfactory once it's had a few coats of oil primer, but the stretcher itself is appalling, on all 10 of the canvases i bought the stretcher has twisted, a couple have splintered edges and one of the support bars has broken at one of the finger joints. I couldn't recommend these canvases no matter how useful their sizes.
