The charcoal pencils and natural sticks in this set are water-soluble. You can manipulate your sketches with a wet brush to achieve smooth wash and watercolour-like background shading effects. The deep carbon pencils leave a permanent, extra-dark, and greasy line compared to traditional dry charcoal. Because carbon sticks do not erase fully, use them at the final stage for your sharpest, darkest shadows.
