This ROHRER & KLINGNER Soft Ground is a traditional, premium wax ground designed explicitly for intaglio and etching printmaking techniques.
This ground comes in a convenient 16 g stick format and is formulated to produce delicate texture transfers and soft, pencil-like lines. It is a soft wax and suet mixture that yields a highly responsive barrier on metal plates. The stick can be easily melted onto a pre-warmed metal plate, then evenly rolled out with a leather roller or dabbed into a thin layer. Once cooled, it perfectly captures structural imprints from materials pressed into it (like leaves or fabrics). Alternatively, artists can lay paper over the plate and draw directly on it; the wax adheres to the drawn areas, lifting away to expose the metal for acid etching.
TIP! The ground is fully soluble in turpentine or standard lithographic solvents for easy clean-up.
