These da Vinci TOP-ACRYL Wide brushes series 5040 are very good quality brushes, ideal for varnishing, priming, acrylic and gouache.

da Vinci TOP-ACRYL Wide brushes series 5040 have very strong synthetic fibres and short black-red polished DUROPLUS handles, with rustproof stainless steel ferrules. The DUROPLUS handle method is a patented technology used by da Vinci to mount brush fibres in a rust-proof ferrule. It is used to secure the fibers more securely, especially in larger brushes that are used more heavily. The method uses rivets, specially designed handles, and adhesives to secure the fibres. The rivets are dipped in glue and connect the fibres to the handle, thus ensuring a long brush life.

Da Vinci Cosmotop Series 5040 60mm Wide Brush - I bought one of these brushes to matt varnish an acrylic painting 80 x 100 cms. The end result was very disappointing. The brush left marks and the painting looked patchy when dry. You may think this is a case of the 'worker blaming his tools' but I had used the varnish before with another brush on a smaller painting and it worked perfectly. I've spent the last week removing the varnish on the larger piece and now it needs re-working in places to bring it back to where it was before varnishing. Not a good experience.
