Esprit Composite Colophane is a versatile, natural amber resin predominantly used in fine arts, printmaking, paint production, and sculpture. For paint, diluting the resin with 20% to 30% alcohol creates a high-gloss protective finish.

The solid and brittle thermoplastic material softens under heat rather than completely melting, typically with a softening point between 90° C and 110° C.

This Esprit Composite Colophane is often added to sculpting wax (in proportions of 20% to 30%) to make the compound significantly tackier when building over armatures. Or it can be ground down to a fine dust and applied to plates to create specialised textures and tones in aquatint printmaking.
