Gerstaecker Studio XL Stretched Block Canvases stand out for their unusual profile of 45 mm x 45 mm. They are ideal for gouache, oil, acrylic and tempera.

Gerstaecker Studio XL Block Canvases are 380 gsm, 100% cotton. They are primed with a low-absorbency universal primer. As the canvas is stapled to the back of the frame the artist can include the sides in their work. The frame is made from high quality wood from sustainable forests and is in one single piece, in contrast to other frames of this size which consist of 2 pieces glued together. This gives our Studio XL range complete solidity and optimal stability. Gerstaecker Studio XL Canvases can easily be hung without further framing due to the stability of the thicker sides.

Sizes larger than 80 cm have a support bar for increased strength, and from 80 cm x 80 cm there is a strengthening cross-support.

XL canvas, 30x40cm - Ordered a dozen of these recently, all arrived in perfect condition although the boxes did take some damage during the transit. The canvases themselves are of excellent quality, the wood is heavy and free from defects, the fabric is heavy and neatly stretched, no sagging or ugly folds. All corners are very neat and tidy. It is not stretched as tightly as some other canvases (which could be almost like drums), but it is a matter of opinion how tight it really should be, some believe that excessive tightness is not good in the long run. The priming seems to be good - no embedded sharp grains, no exposed areas, no tiny holes when placed in front of strong light and no loose bits. Cannot say if it is nice to paint on though as prefer a slightly more absorbent kind of primer and will give each canvas a coat of it. Overall very nice canvases and will keep getting these in the future as long as the quality stays the same.

Excellent - Order many canvasses as a professional artist. Am used to half being damaged in some way. Ordered two 80 by 100. Arrived in perfect condition - although had deep gash through box which only needed to be 2mm deeper to rip into canvas. Excellent quality canvas, stretcher heavy duty and strong and about to order next two. And price is amazing. As long as these arrive in good condition I would be surprised if there are better ready stretched canvasses on the market for the price!!!

Surprised at reviews - Very happy to say that 2 x 120 x 80 XL canvases arrived in pristine quality and have painted on and finished commissions I was working on, so very pleased with quality. I had rang the Customer Service with concerns after reading reviews but they looked after my order and I was extremely pleased.

Really super canvas - Was really concerned when reading other reviews with this canvas as am doing a large commission and was recommended to use the XL canvas but artist friend so I rang Customer Service to advice my concerns prior to ordering and the helpful lady said there were no known issues and if I ordered I should immediately ring her so the warehouse would take extra care of my canvases! I did this and they arrived within 5 days and safe and sound. Study canvas but lightweight. I ordered the 120 x 80 cm and so far am thrilled with my efforts. Cannot complain or fault the canvas or Great Art at all.

excellent when 'whole' - This is a review for the XL canvas, size 150x120cm.
I ordered three and they were all delivered damaged. The next dleivery, one was clearly damaged, so I refused the whole delivery.
The last three were in one piece.
These have been excellent canvases; strong, true, taut canvas.
I like the 4.5cm depth on this size as well.
So, I will probbaly buy more in the future and be ready for some damaged ones.
Quality control needs to improve as boxes were clearly damaged and when you pulled back the damaged cardboard you could see the 'cut' in the canvases easliy.

Cheap and not cheerful - Like other reviewers I was disappointed in the quality of this product. The stretchers were actually broken when I unpacked the parcel, but it was easier to glue them back together myself than to return the large format canvas. This isn't nearly as good quality as previous purchases. I won't ever order this again, but will keep it as a practice canvas. Not nearly good enough quality for any work that you want to exhibit or sell. Shameful.

Awful quality - I have been using XL canvases for many years and they have become more and more sub standard, so much so I cannot use them. The canvas is rough and they sag no matter how many wedges you use which makes them look very poor when hanging in a show...Great Art you need to get rid of your current supplier !!

Quality not as good as it was. - I have been using Great Art for quite a few years, and always been delighted with the XL canvases, specially the 40 x 80 cms, which were very sturdy. However, the last two lots I have ordered have obviously been made by a different manufacturer, and the quality has sadly diminished. The wood is very poor, and the nice sturdy stretcher is no longer present, just a very heavy badly made stretcher in its place.

I really hope Great Art are able to revert to a better manufacturer, because these canvases are no longer suitable for professional artists.

Disappointed - I have been using Great Art for 5 or 6 years and have willingly recommended them to other artist. This time last year I ordered 2xcanvases they took I month to arrive to Guernsey, CI's. I sold both paintings but embarrassingly discovered a flaw in the stretcher of one just as I was delivering it.

I put this down to bad luck and re-ordered 4 frames this year. One month later and several phone calls the canvases arrived poorly packed, subsequently damaged the ones which were not damaged were poorly stretched and very badly put together. Consequently I am now late producing a commission.

great product - Just started painting on a 120 x 100 of these. Very stable frame, easy to tighten with the wedges. Lovely to paint on, nice grain and the low absorption suit my loose brushwork very well. Also, the thickness of 4.5 cm adds a more solid and quality look to it. Only a bit wobbly under the pressure of the brush hence the large format. So maybe good to add some adhesive or so to the back.
