GIUSTO MANETTI READY GYPSUM for Gilders is ideal for sizing, the basis of water gilding. It is ready to use and ideal for beginners, hobbyists and art restorers who want to skip the complex traditional preparation of powder gypsum and animal glues!

This gesso serves as the primary sizing and smoothing base layer for traditional water gilding on wooden surfaces. It is sold in 125 ml jars.

To use:

Apply the READY GYPSUM for Gilders directly onto your wooden support to create a smooth, non-porous ground layer.

Once dry, sand the gesso smooth and apply a layer of clay-based Italian Bole.

Activate the surface with water or a specialised size to lay down your genuine or imitation gold leaf.
