LYRA Rembrandt Charcoal Pencils are premium, professional-grade monochrome pencils known for their high concentration of pure pigments and their exceptional smoothness.
These pencils allow artists to generate rich, precise marks without the typical mess of raw charcoal sticks. They feature generous 5 mm leads encased in high-quality, break-resistant PEFC-certified cedarwood.
LYRA Rembrandt Charcoal Pencils are available in 2 types: oil-free and oil-based.
The oil-free pencils (2B ○ HB ○ H) glide easily to leave intense, velvety strokes. They are highly water-soluble and blend seamlessly with standard tools like paper stumps, cloths, or fingers.
The oil-based pencils (3B ○ 2B ○ B ○ H) are a smudge-proof, fixative-free alternative to traditional dry drawing tools, combining highly concentrated pigments with an oil-and-wax binder for smooth, permanent lines. Unlike dry charcoal, which lifts easily, these oil-based variants lay down permanent lines that serve as excellent structure for mixed-media or detailed monochrome work.
Both variants perform exceptionally well on rough, textured papers that hold loose pigments effectively.
