SCHMINCKE Rapid Undercoat 1 (071) is a quick-drying basecoat for artificial craquelure on oil and acrylic paintings. It can also be used for acrylics and oils on wood, paper, metal, plastic etc.

Old paintings in particular tend to develop undesirable cracks. However, while these age cracks are seen in artistic circles as damage to the painting, the formation of cracks in painting can also be used as a deliberate stylistic device to give the painting an attractive antique character.

SCHMINCKE Rapid Undercoat 1 (071) is characterised by the following properties:

  • liquid
  • yellowish
  • clear
  • solvent-like
  • contains alkyd resin and white spirit
  • available in 200 ml bottle
  • use with item code 23506 for best results
