This ROHRER & KLINGNER Drying Retarder is a premium watercolour medium specifically designed to slow down the evaporation and drying time of water-based paints. The retarder is sold in 50 ml bottles.
This additive allows artists to manipulate and rework watercolour paints over a much longer period, keeping paint layers or mixed palettes dissolvable and soluble for several days instead of hours.
ROHRER & KLINGNER Drying Retarder is ideal for blending, creating soft gradients, and smooth transitions. You can add it drop by drop directly to the water used to dampen your paper to prevent it from drying out mid-process,or it can be added to the paint in any proportion: the ratio 1:1 is recommended. It can also be used if you want to paint “wet-on-wet” over a longer period of time.
TIP! Highly concentrated liquid watercolours retain their full vibrancy and nuance even when mixed directly with this medium.
