Borciani e Bonazzi | ITALIA 1951 401 Flat Watercolour brushes — synthetic hair
The vegan-friendly synthetic hair of the Borciani e Bonazzi ITALIA 1951 401 Flat Watercolour brushes absorbs an average amount of paint. The hair retains its shape and combines flexibility and softness with sufficient resilience.
The brush stroke is full and powerful, short and defined. If you apply a little more pressure, you get an olive-shaped touch. If you only work with the tip, you can work in detail. The short handle allows you to work close to your work — perfect for precise work, even on a horizontal surface.
This brush was initially developed for watercolour and gouache. But you can actually use it for any slightly more fluid paint. For example, for quick, smooth strokes — primi pensieri — in diluted acrylic paint. Or sketches and preliminary studies — bozetti & abbozzi — or glaze layers in diluted oil paint.
TIP! This brush is also highly appreciated by illustrators. And because it is so manoeuvrable, it is often used for urban sketching, also in ink.

➽ The founders of the Italian family business Borciani e Bonazzi — B♦B for short — are brother Arturo and sister Wilma Bonazzi. They started their business in 1951 in a small artisan workshop in the Emilia region of Italy. The name came about when Wilma's husband, the young Borciani, joined the company.
Today, their brushes are still made one by one by hand, combining traditional techniques — learned from local craftsmen — with top-quality materials, such as innovative, high-end synthetic fibres.
