Clairefontaine FONTAINE Cold Pressed watercolour paper is excellent quality 300 gsm paper. The composition and stability of this paper mean it is ideal for wash techniques.

The paper can equally well be used for gouache, ink and acrylic.

This Clairefontaine FONTAINE Cold Pressed watercolour paper is 100% cotton, pH neutral and free from optical brighteners. It is manufactured on a cylinder machine but the purity of the water and cotton used to make the pulp, combined with the quality and consistency of the sizing (both in the pulp and on the surface) make this paper unique in its handmade-like finish. Using Clairefontaine FONTAINE paper is a joy because it has a great capacity for absorption and resistance to wrinkling, whilst offering excellent colour reproduction and preserving the transparency of the colours. The quality of the finish means retouching is also possible.

The grain has been designed in such a way that it completely fades into the background in the execution phase of the drawing or painting, while still giving a certain spiritual dimension to the finished work.

Doesn't even begin to compare to the Arches paper I usually used. Doesn't behave like a NOT paper at all and is very tricky to work with - feels more like a hot-pressed paper. I am only using this block as drawing paper now because it is hopeless for watercolour and I will certainly never buy this brand again.
