These ROHRER & KLINGNER Etching Ground Caps are traditional wax-based hard grounds used as an acid resist in intaglio printmaking. They are available in either black or transparent.
Shaped into small "caps" (or blocks), they are designed to be melted onto a heated metal plate and distributed evenly using an etching leather roller or a dabber. Once cooled, artists use an etching needle to scratch away the wax, exposing the metal for acid biting. Both varieties are easily soluble in spirits of turpentine.
The following ROHRER & KLINGNER Etching Ground Caps are available:
- Black are suitable for most etchings. They are a traditional hard wax ground. They provide a high-contrast, opaque black layer. When you scratch your design with a needle, the bright metal shows through clearly against the dark background.
- Transparent are light-coloured, transparent hard wax grounds, specifically formulated for working on plates that already have a sketch or layout lines on them. The transparent wax protects the plate while allowing your guide work to remain fully visible underneath.
Price per cap.
