LEWIS
Excellent Quality Oil Painting Paper - Tested and Recommend it Highly! - Papers for oil painting need to have certain properties about them. They must be heavy enough to sustain a heavier painting medium such as tube oil paints. The paper must be impervious to the oils, so the oils do not soak into the paper, and preferably offer a nice linen texture surface effect.
I am pleased to say Clairefontaine oil painting papers deliver effortlessly on all the requirements as set out just above.
Each sheet is easily removed from the block pad, as the binding is an elastic soft glue at one edge, at the top of the pad.
The paper is thick enough to take oil paints very well indeed, but also light and flexible enough to put through your studio or home inkjet printer. This is useful if, like me, you draw on a graphic tablet, and produce a drawing in electronic format, such as a TIFF file, a JPEG file, a PNG file, for example. You can then print the drawing on this paper, and then proceed to paint in oils.
As such this Clairefontaine paper in A4 and A3 sizes, is ideal to paint in oils, either a finished picture in its own right, or as I often use it, as a rehearsal painting, before I go on to paint a real size painting on canvas, on the easel.
These oil painting papers feel great to the touch, the fine linen texture on them is exquisite, fine and elegant, and the paper offers enough tooth to grab and hold oil paint effectively.
I bought 2 A4 pads to test and I think I will be buying a bulk of 10 or 20 pads to keep in my studio stock, as I will be keen to continue to use them.
Excellent product, highly recommend it.
