Lascaux | Coloured Coatings — 85 ml bottles

Lascaux Coloured Coatings are black or white aqueous dispersions of vinyl acetate copolymer with pigment, designed to be used in conjunction with Lascaux Hard resist.

The layer of dry hard resist is coated with a Lascaux Coloured Coating so that the drawing is highly visible. When an etching needle or scraper glides through the resist layers, the contrast created by the coating allows artists to clearly see their precise drawn lines. The black coating is the modern, non-toxic equivalent to the traditional practice of "smoking" a hard ground with wax tapers. The White Coating acts similarly to traditional lead-white grounds

These Lascaux Coloured Coatings are non-toxic, remain water-soluble even when dry and are not designed to be acid resistant. Once the drawing on the plate is complete, the coating is easily washed away with water before the plate is placed into the acid bath.
