Walnut oil is pressed from the kernels - not the shells - of walnuts. Like linseed oil, it has traditionally been used in oil painting.

This refined (purified) MAIMERI WALNUT OIL 654 can be added to oil paint on its own, or combined with solvents, resins and/or siccatives to make painting mediums. You can also use it to grind pigments to make your own paint.

Walnut oil is naturally very pale - paler than linseed oil - and hardly yellows at all. This makes it ideal for white and lighter colours. It dries slightly slower than linseed oil, so you can continue working with it for longer. However, it produces a slightly less robust paint film than linseed oil.

TIP! Work with linseed oil in the lower layers of your painting and use walnut oil for the upper layers. This way, you combine the advantages of both.

Product specifications of MAIMERI WALNUT OIL 654 at a glance:

  • 100% vegetable-based drying oil
  • refined = purified
  • when added to oil paint as a medium, it makes the paint oilier
  • reduces the consistency of oil paint — the paint becomes more fluid
  • increases the flow — the touch becomes smoother and softer, brushstrokes fade slightly
  • increases the transparency and gloss of oil paint
  • makes the paint film more flexible
  • drying time is extended, paint remains open longer — dries more slowly than linseed oil
  • less yellowing than linseed oil, very suitable for white and lighter colours
  • can be thinned with turpentine, white spirit etc.

NB Allow to dry thoroughly before varnishing your painting!
