MAIMERI | STAND OIL 652 — polymerised

MAIMERI STAND OIL 652 has a high viscosity - it is almost as thick as honey - and is very greasy. You can add it to oil paint on its own or as an ingredient in a homemade oil medium.

When linseed oil is heated without the addition of oxygen, it becomes stand oil. The oil thickens through polymerisation - the linking of molecules in groups - without oxidation taking place.

TIP! Due to the fat-over-lean rule and its slow drying time, you should only use stand oil in the top layers of your painting, never in the bottom layers - perfect for wet-on-wet techniques and glaze layers!

Stand oil produces a more flexible paint film than regular linseed oil and is less prone to yellowing. In addition, there is less chance of scorching your paint than with regular linseed oil. This stand oil can be combined with linseed oil, walnut oil, poppy seed oil, safflower oil and most ready-made oil mediums.
