This MAIMERI LINSEED OIL 650 is refined (purified). You can add it to oil paint on its own or as an ingredient in a homemade oil medium — max. 40% by volume.

You can also use it as a binder when rubbing oil paint yourself and as an additive to oil-based tempera paints, such as egg tempera or casein.

Linseed Oil is pressed from flax seeds and is the main binding agent in most oil paints. Oxidation changes its chemical structure and causes it to dry into an elastic and robust paint film. Of all natural oils, linseed oil produces the most stable paint film. It does have a slight tendency to yellow, but except for whites and other light colours, this is usually not noticeably problematic. For whites and other light colours, poppy seed oil or safflower oil, which do not yellow, are often used, either alone or in combination with linseed oil.

TIP! If a painting painted with linseed oil based paint is stored in the dark, this tendency to yellow becomes more pronounced. If you then expose the painting to sunlight for some time, the yellowing will largely disappear again.
